Once our Middle School construction is complete, the program will organize students into multi-grade levels, combining grades 7th and 8th.  Classroom communities will be led by a core teacher with a range of specialist teachers.  The Middle School curriculum will incorporate traditional Montessori philosophy and strategies with national and state curriculum standards.  Preparation for high school intensifies at this level, as students develop skills that will ensure their success in secondary school and beyond. 

The classroom structure will be nurturing and learner-centered, with a wide range of experiences.  Students' work will be divided into personal learning and group learning.  Personal learning involves work such as essays and tests that lend themselves to students' individual efforts.  Though academic work can be undertaken in partnership with others, students are held individually accountable for their progress.  Group learning takes place in teams of three to four, where students learn to collaborate on projects and where research is shared in presentations, seminars, and debates.

The Montessori Academy's whole-person education will leave Middle School students well prepared to tackle any academic or social challenge and to flourish in a wide variety of settings.
