Musikgarten :

Creative movement fosters deep learning

Our Musikgarten certified Montessori teacher has completed training in "Cycle of the Seasons"; a musical celebration of the year for young children.  Musikgarten was created by internationally recognized music educator and teacher trainer, Lorna Heyge who is the founder of Kindermusik.  The curriculum was coauthored with Audrey Sillick, who has been actively involved in Montessori education for over thirty years.

The Cycle of Seasons presents over 200 playful activites for preschool children.  Children can be found moving, singing and chanting, listening, and playing instruments which are the core activities in music and movement development.  Students dance with scarves, ribbons, hoops, and play rhythm instruments.

Music and movement address all facets of human development. Moving to music and simple rhythmic songs comes naturally to young children and both energizes them and helps them to integrate sensory and motor experiences.  Music & movment can:

  • develop balance, control, and coordination through fun & challenging activities.
  • help children explore abstract concepts on an experiential level of understanding for deep learning.
  • develop self-awareness.
  • emphasize give-and-take social interaction through play/dance.
  • express activities and feelings of everyday life in mime and drama.
  • raise the level of consciousness of how to move, where to move, and how part of the body feel while in action.
